I received a preemptive rejection letter, and they misspelled my name on the announcement post, but I was listed as a finalist in this year's String-of-10 contest at Flash Fiction Chronicles.

I used the contest prompt to get out of a rut I was in earlier this year. The premise is pretty ingenious, really, (creating something short and sweet from a handful of random words) and it made for a fun little exercise. I'm pretty stoked to know I made the top twenty from two-hundred plus entries.

I'll definitely be participating again next year. if you're looking for a good time, you guys should consider it too.

Even two days later, I'm honored to receive a daily deviation. Over the years, I've seen some fantastic writers (some of whom I've had the extreme privilege of befriending) receive this same award, and it blows me away to know I'm up there with them.

Many thanks go to Nic for the feature and for everyone who was kind enough to stop by and validate my work. Someday was the first story I ever published and it's great to know the piece is still as entertaining as the day Steve first asked to post it at 365 Tomorrows so many moons ago. All the best to everyone who's participated in this praise-fest. (It's really nice to have these once and a while.)

Another of my poems, "Reflections En Route to Orion Nebula", was just accepted at Strange Horizons. This makes three poetry acceptances in the span of a month.

It's so weird that my sci-fi poems are being received so well. I wrote most of them last spring during a poetry class and never really thought too highly of them--in point of fact, one of the scifaiku I sold is about aliens eating people. I never dreamed the poem would make it to publication, let alone at a print magazine for actual payment.

I suppose the lesson to learn here is that something fun to write isn't automatically devoid of any merit. Don't give into your self doubt. You're probably better at your craft than you think.

That's right, ladies and gents. I just made my first poetry sale to Aoife's Kiss. This doubles as my first acceptance for print publication. Exciting times indeed.

Have to say I'm pretty fond of this whole sci-fi poetry concept. It's great fun to try and communicate something fantastic with so few words. I definitely recommend trying your hand at it when you have some spare time, even if haiku isn't your game. In point of fact, I direct you to the works of venturus--this guy's got it figured out.

Now all I need is an acceptance for one of my short fiction pieces and I'll be set.

Just received word that another one of my scifaiku has been accepted at Scifaikuest and I'm very pleased. Two acceptances in a week? What's next, several rejections in a single day?
